Education to Make Women Better Housewives

Aurora Leigh was a girl who was sent to her aunt’s after her father’s passing. Her aunt was a very strict woman. She wanted Aurora Leigh to have an education. She was strict on getting her the education as well but her reasoning for wanting Aurora Leigh to have an education doesn’t sit right with me. Aurora aunt wanted her to be educated for a man. She wanted her to have knowledge so she could attract a man. She was basically grooming her to be the perfect housewife. She was not only teaching her to give her knowledge but she taught her to dance and other things to attract a man. This is just like what we read the other week with Mary Wollstonecraft. Mary wanted women to get educated as well but only enough to make them better conversations for their husbands. Enough to make them more pleasing to a man. They both were fighting for women to get educated in a way but both of them were going the wrong way about  it. Aurora aunt was too strict about it and Mary put limitations on what women can learn and do. Mary still put women and men in specific roles.

  1. I agree a lot with what you were saying in your blog post. Back then, women were treated like how they are today. It is very similar to Mary’a story like you said in your post. It is a very drastic change that has come to women’s treatment and equality. Education is something that is very important and women didn’t get the exposer that men did to education which is completely unfair so it is very good how much things are different these days.
