Course Description

Sophomore literature courses are a study of literature in the context of historical and cultural perspectives. English 2323 is a survey of English literature from the 18th century to present day.

In this course, we will read and discuss English literature through a study of history, an examination of forms and genres, an eye to context, and an acknowledgement of our current historical, cultural, and personal lens. With a focus on comprehension, we will also develop writing skills as a way to better understand and connect with the texts we read. Through short reactionary writing and longer, developed essays, we will explore our personal, cultural, academic, and historical connections to the texts we read in class.
