Throughout history as we all know, women have not always been set equal to men. This has changed drastically over time to now where women now have every right that a man will get. We talked a lot about women’s rights and women empowerment a lot this week and it raised a question. Did anyone ever think this was a wrong way to treat a women? I guess back then nobody really gave it a second thought but in today’s time, things have changed drastically. Many woman had experienced belittlement or disrespect back then such as, Mary Wollstonecraft, she fought for woman to be treated as rational creatures and she gave a good fight. Women also did not get as much education as they would have now. Women were not looked at to be knowledgeable but rather housewives who cooked and cleaned all day. If anyone were to switch back the time, they would be very surprised to see how things are very different now. If it was not for Mary, maybe things would not be so different for woman like they are now.
Hi Eli, your point about the difference between how we treat women today and how they were treated in the past is a great eye-opener. Sometimes when we start to read stories by Mary Prince and other past women of feminism we forget to compare how much the movement has actually grown. For instance, you mentioned that a lot of the rights women had during Mary’s time are not the same as ones we have today. To be exact, women during the time didnt actually have rights at all, we were only viewed as wife’s that clean and take care of the children while the men work. For the longest time we were nothing but objects, and over time powerful women who were not afraid to speak up like Mary fought to change this view. We eventually started to press for our rights that we now have today. And just like you said, if it wasnt for women like Mary, women would be in a completely different situation than where we are at now, which is why as a woman I am extremely thankful for people like her.

Hi Eli! I agree with your closing statement, not only about Mary, but if it weren’t for women supporting feminism throughout the years then I’m sure we’d face much more adversities today. Looking back, it’s incredible to see the progress women have made and how many women are still fighting today. This is not some topic that just comes and goes with passing conversation, it’s an actual issue that people prefer to avoid. I’m glad there has been so much change and women have more freedoms and opportunities than we used to. There is still so much changing and feminism continues to grow. I’m appreciative of the development of this movement.
