  1. For my second paper, I want to write about the Victorian age. I am leaning towards “The Lady of Shallot” or “Aurora Leigh”. Both of these works were written by english poets, which show the expansion of the British empire during the time period. Both Tennyson and Barrett were believers in Christianity, which was also common in this era. Lastly, both works have women as the main character, and both women are perceived as objects rather than people which was normal in the Victorian age. Although women were given more rights during this time, they still did not have all of the opportunities that men did.

  2. For my second paper, I think that I am going to write about Tennyson’s “Lady of Shallot”. This was a very interesting reading to me and it really caught my curiosity about it. It really shows how much of a difference there was between men and woman back then compared to now. This was the norm back then and I think its interesting how much things have changed from back then to now.

  3. For my second paper, I’ve considered writing about “Aurora Leigh,” by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, because I want to expand the light on how men objectified women. Aurora’s cousin, Romney, proposed marriage, but he simply wanted her to support him and forget about writing because it was out of the ordinary for women, and throughout history, women have been subjected to only being there for men’s gain; with their sole purpose being to tend to men and their family. So I want to broaden the horizon and bring out women’s growth, and comparing it to that of Aurora Leigh.

  4. I am considering to write about a Mary Wollstonecraft’s “A vindication for the rights of woman” or “Aurora Leigh” because they are both dealing with the freedom of a woman the limits imposed by another person. Mary is her own personal thoughts about women but Elizabeth is telling a story of a girl who is looked down upon and she can’t do anything about it because their is a deep rooted hatred. I just want to dig deeper into how the perception of why do they perceived and have these regulation for woman when they should be free and do what they want but instead are afraid and submissive. As well as how these ideas connect to the history of the time period of the time.

  5. For my second paper I am considering writing about Mary Wollstonecraft’s “A vindication for the rights of woman” or “Aurora Leigh”. I find both of these text compelling because both are dealing with woman’s rights. I like how both of stories display how woman were treated at the time and what was expected of them.In my research paper I would like to understand the mindset of men and woman at the time and have a deeper understanding about the society as a whole.

  6. Any part of either of the entries written by former slaves from the first book would be a reasonable choice, connecting these entries to their time period’s issues should be fairly simple. As for a subject I am interested to know more about based on the context of the environment it was written in, perhaps Jenny would be a sufficient choice. Though we already discussed to some degree the time period in which Jenny is written, it would be nice to know more about why it was written and how prominent the behavior seen was.

  7. For my second paper, I am considering writing about “The Lady of Shallot” or “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”. I could write about the historical context of Arthurian legends and the impact on society that the legends held, or I could write about London and what was going on during the time period that “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” was written in. Both have held important cultural impact as Lancelot is a popular known figure in literature, as well as the dark story of Dr. Jekyll.

  8. For my second paper i was thinking about writing about Mary Wollstonecraft “A vindication for the rights of woman”. I really liked the class discussion we had over this text. women’s rights are important and deserve some recognition and that is what Mary Wollstonecraft is trying to do.
